Report
Easter 2007
2nd April – 5th April 2007 - Girls (Slater Sports Hall) & Boys (Calthorpe Park) Sessions
The sessions at Slater Sports Hall were for girls between the ages of 7 and 16. They were supervised by qualified female coaches and volunteers. The sessions at Calthorpe Park were mixed session (boys and girls) between the ages of 7 and 16.
Our activities were aimed at children and young people from the inner city of Birmingham. Participants were asked to pay 20p for each 2 hour session. During the week, we offered a range of different sporting activities (Football, Cricket, Soft Ball, and Tag Rugby etc)
Number of Beneficiaries

A breakdown of participants and attendance is given below:
- 148 beneficiary hours for boys sessions (38%);
- 242 beneficiary hours for girls sessions (62%);
- 390 beneficiary hours in total.
Summary of findings
- A morning (10:30am – 12:30) and afternoon (1:00 – 3:00pm) session was held at each day.
Rain caused us to move the venue from Calthorpe Park to Birmingham Sports Centre making travel to and from the sports venue more difficult for the boys.
- Despite the bad weather and the change of venue, the week was a success. The children and young people enjoyed the sports and the feedback was positive.
- The turnout remained pretty steady over the week increasing until Thursday with a decline on Friday due to Friday prayers.
- The higher attendance for the girls’ sessions was due to the indoor venue and the fact the girls were able to attend both the girls and the mixed sessions. The feedback from the girls sessions was extremely positive.
- Asking children to pay 20p per session did affect our numbers from previous holiday schemes.
