At the end of the league a 20/20 Competition was held, with a 20-over match for each inning and a limit of 4 overs for each bowler. There were 2 groups of 4 teams in each group. The top two teams in each group went on to play in the semi final which was won by Calthorpe CC who were handed the Twenty Twenty Cup.
The bottom two teams in each group were entered into the semi-finals for the 20/20 Plate, where Wolverhampton Exclusive CC walked away with this award.
Midweek League
The 15-overs a-side Midweek League games started at 6 pm and finished between 8 and 8.30 pm with each bowler allowed a maximum of 3 overs. The following six teams played in the midweek league; Azad Sports CC, Calthorpe CC, MCDT CC, Nine Lives, Phoenix CC, and Redditch Stars CC. Calthorpe CC played some amazing cricket and were worthy winners of the Midweek League in the end.
The presentation night was held at the Birmingham Sports Centre and hosted by Mazar Dad, Mohammed Shafique and Zhor Malik. The main guests were Roger Godsiff MP, along with Warwickshire County CC player Tahir Naqaash, Birmingham Sports Centre Manager Barry Rashid, and several Local Community Activists including Mohammed Azim, Zulfiqar Ali, and Mohammed Saeed.
There was also a presentation for a Local Leagues player, Shozair Ali, who was selected to play in the Warwickshire Academy.
The presentation night was very well attended with several new teams showing an interest in playing in the 2008 season. Feedback on the Cricket League has been good with people stating how professionally the league was run along with positive comments about the website which contains information on all the League’s teams, grounds along with a fixtures and results service.
We also had official umpires for each game with the results of all matches are printed in the Birmingham Post, Birmingham Mail and also the Express and Star Newspapers.
