FootBULL 2007
![]() |
5th June 2007 – FootBULL Tournament - University of Birmingham.
FootBULL is a joint venture between the University of Birmingham and Local Leagues. Originally 12 schools were set to participate on the day but Springfield and Birchfield had to pull out at the last minute. It was therefore decided to invite Conway and Prince Albert to bring a second team with them on the basis of rewarding them – i.e. Conway as winners of Outstanding Contribution to Local Leagues at the Civic Reception and Prince Albert as winners of the Fair Play trophy at last year’s FootBull tournament.
Event Organisers:
- (Local Leagues) Sam Lockyer with 12 staff;
- 4 x Lloyds TSB volunteer referees;
- 4 x Enterprise Rent A Car volunteers;
- Andy Murphy & Fiona Scott (Local Leagues’ volunteers at University of Birmingham);
- Sue Welland (Community Liaison Assistant at University of Birmingham);
- 20 x Local Leagues volunteers (13 x University of Birmingham, 1 x University of Birmingham alumni, 2 x Aston University, and 4 x Community volunteers).
The day started with 2 members of Local Leagues coaching staff at both pick up points so there was someone to greet the schools as they boarded the bus and ensure there were no problems en route to the University. The weather was fantastic and the football being played was of a great standard.
Each team was allocated two student volunteers / 2 members of Local Leagues coaching staff to guide them throughout the day. Thirty volunteers helped on the day with a training day taking place before the event.
After all the games had been played the pupils were led up to a presentation in a lecture theatre at the University. There were medals & certificates for every child.
Highlights
- Transport was provided at no cost to the school, each school had its own individual colour to distinguish the teams with every child taking part receiving a free t-shirt. Each volunteer was given a blue LL uniform.
- This year FootBULL was combined with Team building, enabling staff coaching staff to work well with volunteers, it was suggested that future team building weeks coincide with Team building.
- All the schools enjoyed the day and the feedback was positive, some of the feedback was filmed by local leagues and the footage can be seen in the forthcoming LL promo video.
