Text Box: “Local leagues is a great organisation that gives kids the opportunity to participate in sports that aren't available to them usually, giving them chances to learn new skills, work as a team and be active. I've worked with them for two and a half years now, and the kids are so grateful to have coaches from Local Leagues come in and coach them a new sport, and as a coach I love having the chance to develop my skills and get some very good work experience in schools, all for a good cause.” Fiona Scott, Volunteer (Final Year Student, University of Birmingham) September 2006 – Present

We had 43 volunteers signing up during the period September 2006 to present. The volunteers were sourced and signed up from the various local universities and their composition was as follows:

Of these volunteers, all 43 were placed to receive the real work experience of working with children within schooling environments.

There were 11 schools that provided these ‘placements’ and where 14 volunteer-led school sessions per week took place. With an average of 20 children per session, this equated to 280 children benefiting per week.
As per usual, there was a Civic Reception held at the Council House, Banqueting Suite, in recognition of our volunteers. This was our 8th Annual Civic Reception in conjunction with the Lord Mayor’s Parlour.
