Spring Half-Term Activities
(30th May – 2nd June 2006)
The spring half-term activities ran within Calthorpe Park, with a minimum of 2 hour sessions each day.
A coach service was arranged to pick up children from within inner city Birmingham to be brought to Calthorpe Park for the purpose of wider participation.
A range of different sporting activities including football, cricket, softball, and tag rugby, etc., were offered to the participants, with all sessions being supervised by at least four members of staff from Local Leagues. Overall, though short, the week was a success and a great learning curve as we head towards the summer.
Highlights
- The half-term period was only a four-day week of activities due to the bank holiday falling on the first Monday of the holidays. The first session on the Tuesday saw a turnout of 22 children who were split into smaller groups. The participants received some basic football coaching, after which they played a thoroughly enjoyable large-scale match game.
- On the final day of activities, 16 participants turned up to play a mini football tournament in the MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) cage. This was a highly enjoyable day for the participants and staff alike.
A positive outcome from the week was that the children really enjoyed playing other sports such as tag rugby and softball and we hope that they will continue to play these sports at school and with Local Leagues.
A breakdown of participants and attendance is given below:

Total number of beneficiaries for the week: 42
Total number of hours of activity: 32 hrs
