Volunteers
September 2004 – June 2005
We had 48 Volunteers signing up during the period September 2005 to June 2005. The Volunteers were sourced and signed up from the various local Universities and their composition was as follows:
- 3 Volunteers from Aston University;
- 2 Volunteers from the University Of Central England;
- 20 Volunteers from the University Of Birmingham; and
- 7 general Volunteers.
Of these Volunteers, all 48 were placed to receive the real work experience of working with children in a schooling environment.
There were 9 schools that provided these ‘placements’ and where 11 volunteer-led school sessions per week took place. With an average of 16 children per session, this equated to 176 children benefiting per week.
There were also 2 out of school sessions that took place (2 Saturday Football Leagues) where an average of 36 children per league took part. This equated to 72 children per week taking part in the Saturday league.
The total number of children benefiting per week was 248.
We hold a Civic Reception in recognition of our Volunteers contribution to Local Leagues’ programmes every year, and it was our 6th annual reception in 2005 with Councillor Mike Nangle as the Lord Mayor.
