Kashmir Learn Active Cricket

Heads up!
Playing cricket in Kashmir

With the backing of the Heritage Lottery Fund, an exciting new course that combined Heritage, Cricket and IT took place at Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s Sports Centre this summer.

Boys were invited to attend 2-hour Cricket sessions followed by a 1-hour active learning session to learn about the special Heritage linked to the Kashmir region of the Asian Sub-continent. For Girls, there was a 1-hour Heritage and IT class.

The Cricket sessions were taken by qualified Warwickshire Coaches along with Local Leagues’ staff. Expert bilingual teachers with modern teaching equipment delivered the Heritage sessions. Every child received a comprehensive, illustrated booklet outlining the unique history and culture surrounding Kashmir.

Saltley Leisure Centre & Nechells Leisure Centre

As part of Lee Rowley’s CSCS contract, there was a requirement for him to work 7.5 hours within the Washwood Heath district and 7.5 hours within the Nechells district throughout the summer. This was fulfilled through using our existing links with the Saltey Leisure and Nechells Leisure Centres.

At the Saltley Leisure Centre, there is a superb summer scheme where approximately forty children attend every day taking part in a wide range of sporting activities. The uptake of activities here is so good that there is a waiting list for children to replace other children if they drop out or are excluded for bad behaviour.

Nechells Leisure Centre is pretty much a similar operation to Saltley Leisure Centre where approximately the same numbers of children partake in activities per day throughout the holidays.

Through his work at these centres, Lee has made significant contributions and an impact. Lee’s contributions have been of such a high standard that we have been asked to provide Lee’s services to both these centres during the coming summer holidays again as well as on other occasions.

Consent forms received: 40.

The average number of children per day: 40.
