Local Leagues 4th Annual Cricket Reception

The venue for this year’s presentation was Regents Park Banqueting Suite in Small Heath, Birmingham. The ceremony commenced at 8.00pm with approximately 200 guests in attendance.

Zhor Malik invited Hafiz Mohammed Saeed for the recitation of the Qur'an; this was followed by the introduction of our distinguished guest at the top table which comprised of Mazar Dad (Activities Director, Local Leagues), Mohammed Shafique (Project Director, Local Leagues), Councillor Jerry Evans, Zamin Hussain (Pakistan Consulate), Haji Zulfiqar Ali (Chair, Small Heath Community Forum), Zafar Islam (Chair, Birmingham Parks), Barkat Ali (City Claims UK Ltd), Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, Haji Zulfaqar Ali (50+ Project), and Tahir Naqaash (local professional cricketer).

The ceremony was opened by Mazar Dad who provided an overview of Local Leagues. The event was organised to commemorate the12 teams that had taken part in the 2009 season. Local Leagues' own Under 15’s team played Home and Away to Craven Arms, with the Under 18’s playing matches at Walsall. The season climaxed with the Twenty20 Final being played out at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground (the home ground of Warwickshire County Cricket Club).

Guest speakers said a few words each - Councillor Jerry Evans has been very supportive of the sports activities delivered by Local Leagues and explained the benefits of sport; and the City Claims Director, Mohammed Qazim, explained what their company did (dealing with accident and personal injury claims) and their involvement with Local Leagues in supporting through sponsoring a 30-over Cricket Competition.

Umpires were also awarded trophies for their excellent work throughout the season, and a meal concluded the presentation evening with everybody sharing their achievements.
