Student Volunteer Awards

May 2009

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham will be among guests at a lavish Council House function on 2nd June 2009 organised by Local Leagues Ltd to celebrate the hard work put in over the past year by its student and local community volunteers.

Students from all three Universites have given their time and expertise to provide a valuable service as sports coaches in inner-city Birmingham schools. The Civic Reception is a chance for Local Leagues and the wider community in Birmingham to thank those students for their hard work and commitment.

The Local Leagues approach is fairly unique in bringing together two groups of people who are otherwise unlikely to interact. Students have fun gaining coaching exprience and work towards recognised coaching qualifications; the children get to spend time with excellent role models and have access to a greater selection of well-organised activities.

This is the tenth annual event of its kind held by Local Leagues and this year's fucntion will also see guests from partner projects in other areas of the country.
