FootBULL 2007 Tournament

As part of the Volunteers Week (archived news) and as an annual event, Local Leagues held a football tournament in conjunction with Birmingham University on 6th June 2007.
The football tournament - dubbed 'FootBULL' (Birmingham University / Local Leagues) was a resounding success as always.
The day consisted of a fun but competitive football tournament between 10 local schools (12 teams in total) with 10 children from each school.
Each team was allocated two student volunteers / 2 members of Local Leagues coaching staff to guide them throughout the day. Thirty volunteers helped on the day with a training day taking place before the event. Every child taking part received a free t-shirt in its own individual colour to distinguish the teams.
Every effort was made to make the event as accessible as possible for the schools and as such transport was provided at no cost to the school.
The day started with 2 members of Local Leagues coaching staff at both pick up points so there was someone to greet the schools as they boarded the bus and ensure there were no problems en route to the University. Originally 12 schools were set to participate on the day but Springfield and Birchfield had to pull out at the last minute. This was unfortunate but could not be helped. It was therefore decided to invite Conway and Prince Albert to bring a second team with them on the basis of rewarding them – i.e. Conway as winners of Outstanding Contribution to Local Leagues at the Civic Reception and Prince Albert as winners of the Fair Play trophy at last year’s FootBULL tournament. The weather was fantastic and the football being played was of a great standard. After all the games had been played the pupils were led up to a presentation in a lecture theatre at the University. There were medals & certificates for every child with Aston Tower Community School winning overall and collecting the Winners Shield and Greet school winning the Fair Play Award.
All in all this was a great day. All the schools enjoyed the day and the feedback has been great.
