‘Delivering Sport In The Community’

Summer Half Term - 29th May - 1st June 2007

We have always catered for 7 to 16 year olds during our holiday activities. In the past we have found that the age group is too large and the older and younger ends of the age group do not mix successfully, therefore we split the age groups, which worked really well at the Slater Sports Hall.

The early sessions were held for 7-11 year olds and the afternoon sessions for 12-16 years olds.

Activities

At Slater Sports Hall the young people experienced 3 different sports in each session. Each session began with some coaching skills and then progressed into a game.

The football and cricket ran simultaneously with young people being able to choose which activity they participated in throughout the day. There had been plans to run small challenges and team activities for the young people but due to initial low numbers, this was not possible.

The numbers were lower than anticipated for a Local Leagues holiday activity, but this was attributable a number of factors - the weather being one which was terrible and deterred people from coming to the sessions.

Summary

The half-term activities went well but we noted room for improvements. The children and young people that attended the activities provided us with positive feedback which we will use to make improvements to our future activities.

We hope for the summer that we will be able to attract more young people through higher profile publicity, and most importantly, hope the weather will hold out better.
